The New Movement Mindset

Why Recovery Matters as Much as the Workout

September has a way of bringing us back to routine. Summer holidays come to an end, school starts again, diaries fill up and, for many of us, movement finds its way back onto the agenda.

At Seabody, Movement is one of our pillars of wellness. We see it as part of a bigger picture, alongside sleep, nutrition, mindfulness and the other everyday practices that shape how we feel and care for ourselves.

Recovery belongs in the routine

Recovery is often treated as the opposite of exercise,  the day when we aren’t training, the pause between workouts. But perhaps it makes more sense to see it as part of movement itself.

It doesn’t need to be complicated. Recovery might mean stretching after a run, taking a slower walk, choosing a gentler form of movement between more demanding sessions, or simply giving the body more time to pause.

There is also something to be said for the sensory cues around movement. Warmth can help create a sense of preparation before activity, while cooling, nourishing bodycare can mark the transition afterwards.

This is why we created Seabody’s Movement Body Oil and Movement Body Balm. The warming oil can be used before or after movement, creating a warming, sensory moment around activity, while the cooling balm offers a contrasting experience afterwards, cool, refreshing and nourishing for the skin.

It is a simple way of thinking about movement differently: not just the workout itself, but the moments that surround it. Preparing. Moving. Slowing down. Reconnecting with the body.

For those returning to exercise as September brings a renewed sense of routine, there is value in building gradually and paying attention to how the body responds along the way.

Because consistency isn’t about doing everything, every time. It’s about finding a rhythm of movement, rest and recovery that you can return to.

Movement is part of something bigger

Movement doesn’t exist in isolation. It sits alongside sleep, nutrition, emotional wellbeing and the quieter practices that help us feel grounded and connected to our bodies.

That is at the heart of Seabody’s approach to wellness. Our pillars are not separate routines to fit into an already busy life, but different ways of supporting a healthier relationship with the body.

Movement asks something of the body. Recovery gives us time to slow down. And sleep is another part of that rhythm,  giving the body time to rest and reset.

Perhaps that is the shift in the movement mindset: away from seeing exercise as something we simply do to our bodies, and towards understanding movement, rest and recovery as part of how we care for them.
